Not so much a hair colour trend as it is a pairing of black hair with a short hair cut, the short black haircut is one of the 2010 haircut trends that is somewhat universal. Able to be styled in looks from classic to neo-rocker and its ability to be cut in a plethora of different ways (with or without a fringe, as a bob or near-on pixie crop short) the short black haircut for 2010 will work most face shapes and skin colour. Hair trends of late have moved in three year cycles, and we expect that it'll be no different for the pixie crop. 2010 should be the hair trends last 'hoorah', and we expect it to be firmly out by mid-2010. But do note, we've chosen the word 'expect' very carefully. Perhaps we're being over-cautious and are hedging our bets, but let us explain with three good reasons why.

There's always a demand for short hair cuts for women. While the short black is an option for 2010, it does have to go hand in hand with some dark hair dye (a fact that'll dissuade most)
There are a lot of people out there with pixie crops. Abandoning it simply isn't a choice with extensions usually ghastly to maintain.
British actress Carey Mulligan simply looks great with her pixie crop (pictured below) and should her 2010 film line up prove as successful as her 2009 work, she'll soon be setting styles.

So what constitutes a 2010 pixie crop? The second of our reasons above is the biggest clue. As women everywhere grow our their pixie crops and cropped bobs in 2010, the it'll be cut with longer features. In particular, we're recommending a brow length fringe swept to the side and held in place by a pomade.

Not that there isn't an alternative. Nor do we no doubt that some people will be wearing it into 2010, but they'll be doing so long after the hair cut has reached commonality. It's easy to forget that eyebrows have trend cycles of their own; albeit cycles that move much more slowly than other beauty, hair and fashion trends.

While the full and natural, yet still maintained, style of brows have been on-trend for quite some time, the 'in fashion' shape certainly hasn't trended towards pencil thin eyebrows. And that's not about to change. A natural style and shape remains the style to have.

What's changing is the colour. Look hard and you'll see that bleached blonde eyebrows are currently a beauty trend. While no one should go to the extreme of shaving them off and having no eyebrows at all, those bleached to be peroxide blonde are now amongst the growing list of 2010 fashion trends.

Where we've seen bleached eyebrows

Very much a runway and editorial beauty trend, bleached eyebrows are slowly filtering through into street fashion. We say bleached, but we suspect that more often than not cutting edge fashionisers are simply masking their natural eyebrow colour with some clever make-up techniques.

Pictorially, model Lara Stone was one of the first to stand out with fair brows and, thus, popularise the look. More recently models Alla Kostromicheva, Ranya Mordanova, and Katlin Aas have followed suit and have been sporting the look.

How to style bleached eyebrows

If you want to try out this trend, get your eyebrows professionally bleached at a salon. Do not try this at home.
Matching your eyebrow colour to your hair colour is obviously not the thing to do. Your eyebrows should be a blonde colour. If you're already blonde, your eyebrows need to be a lighter shade: the effect is intended to be dramatic.
Enhance the drama of the the look by using dark eye makeup around the eyes and a bold colour, verging towards dark and not nude, lipstick.
To cheat and avoid having to use bleach at all, you can get a subtle effect using foundation to cover the brows.
